A topically applied botulinum toxin type A is in the third phase of clinical testing. At this point in time the initial phases of the study have been highly impressive, showing the topical botulinum has efficacy similar to injectable botulinums like Botox Cosmetic (Allergan) and Dysport (Medicis).
It seems the topical product will be applied in-office using a one-step applicator and left on for perhaps 30 minutes before removing with a proprietary cleanser. Currently the product is being developed and studied by Revance Therapeutics and more will be known about timing, marketing, etc. as the testing continues.
